Fly Tying Schools - Winter Retreats

Fly tying is a great way to extend your fishing time and budget. Time spent tying--while not as rewarding as time on the river--is an enjoyable and productive way to pass the time when you can't be fishing. Join our professional instructors for a weekend of fly tying instruction to improve your tying skills while staying in our beautiful, cozy lodge. Throw in a little winter steelheading on the PM, and you have a unique opportunity to learn to tie and test your patterns at the same time.

We offer weekend long fly tying schools in January. The program begins Friday night with a slide show about local fly fishing with wine and cheese. On Saturday there are three sessions, covering different techniques, equipment, materials, and patterns depending on the class. Bring your own tools and equipment or use ours.

During the breaks there's time to check out the winter steelheading on the PM, which can be incredible if the weather's right. You will be walk-in guided with your instructors and have the opportunity to test the patterns you tied!

Sunday morning you start to learn different methods of dubbing, winging and hackling, along with challenging techniques like spinning deer hair. In the afternoon you can put these skills together to tie a variety of patterns with coaching from our skilled instructors.

The instructors for the workshop are professional fly tyers with thousands of dozens of flies behind them. They are experienced instructors and will teach you to tie flies that you can be proud of. Our instructors are also professional guides who spend many days on the river each year and know what patterns produce.
