The
air is crisp, the leaves crackling, and the rivers are alive with
fish. In the distance a gunshot rings out while you fight a King
Salmon. Your thoughts turn to hunting. "The fishing is great,
why not combine it with a little bird hunting..." Join us at
the Pere Marquette River Lodge for Cast & Blast trips
in the fall to flyfish for Salmon or Steelhead and hunt for Ruffed
Grouse and Woodcock.
Head
guide Walt Grau specializes
in providing the highest quality cast & blast guiding in Michigan.
All three are highly experienced river guides who share a love for
wingshooting with pointers. Walt hunts with Fletch, a German Shorthaired
Pointer. Sean has a rare breed of pointer, a Wirehaired Pointing
Griffon named Emma. Tom Johnson has a Brittany Spaniel and a pair
of German Shorthairs. You can bring your own dog as well, but dogs
are only allowed in the cabins, not the lodge.
Ruffed
Grouse season begins September 15 and runs to November 14, the day
before firearm deer season starts. The season reopens from December
1-31, a great time to catch fresh chrome steelhead and enjoy a little
wingshooting as well. Woodcock season begins around September 19
and closes November 5. The opening date varies from year to year
based on DNR estimates of the Woodcock population.
You can do our Cast
& Blast adventures as a combined activity in one day or separate
days of fishing and hunting. Combine a morning of flyfishing with
an afternoon of bird hunting for $395 for one or two people. If
you choose to do them separately, cost for a full day of hunting
only is $325. Flyfishing guiding for 10 hour trip (about 7-9 hours
fishing) costs $325.
