Jeff Bacon
Jeff Bacon’s adventures in fly fishing began in 1974 when he and his father Ron went to southwest Montana to visit an old college buddy of his dad’s. It was on the banks of the Big Hole River that his first grayling was caught, knots were learned and skills developed that would assist him in the years ahead.

Originally from the mid-Michigan area, Jeff was introduced to the outdoors at a very young age. Whether chasing upland birds, waterfowl, small game, deer or fish, his opportunities in the outdoors were plentiful growing up and he was often found sharing the wonders of nature with neighbor kids and classmates.

Following college and a career in the retail industry, Jeff started guiding year-round in 1997. It was then that he joined former Orvis retailer and author/speaker, Dick Pobst, in expanding guide services out of his shop, Thornapple Orvis, formerly in Grand Rapids.

When not guiding, tying flies, fishing or trying to get that perfect fishing photo, Jeff can be found around his home near Grand Rapids with his wife Mary and young son Carter.
